It will tell you when Google crawlers visited your site and found errors in it. Now, the question here is,

  • was it because of your server
  • was it to do with your pages
  • was it for smartphone
  • and so on.

Now, going in to web options–> Notfound

Its showing me that there are 6 errors as you can see in the screen shot below:

Whether the URL was not present in the sitemaps because if it was present in your sitemap, you will have to look at whats actually wrong and why your server threw 404 error page

According to one of the Google employee’s Susan Moskwa:

The best way to stop Googlebot from crawling URLs that it has discovered in the past is to make those URLs (such as your old Sitemaps) 404. After seeing that a URL repeatedly 404s, we stop crawling it. And after we stop crawling a Sitemap, it should drop out of your “All Sitemaps” tab.”

You can see the success status because we have now fixed this link by using 301 redirect.

So, always remember that the quickest way is to identify whats really going on with your URLS:

  • Is it something because of you
  • Is it something to do with your webserver

Lets suppose, if its because of your hosting, contact them asap, but if you have moved these links permanently, it means that these links will not be online anymore.

and paste in it a notepad file.

Now, copy each link at a time from your notepad file and open up the c-panel of your hosting server, so that we can do 301 re-direct on these offline links that you have moved.
